Oakleaf Grounds Services and Keepmoat work together with local schools

A team from Oakleaf Grounds Services, along with housing and regeneration specialists, Keepmoat, joined forces to create an attractive seating area in the playground at Baxter Business and Enterprise College, Kidderminster.

The project, sponsored by both Keepmoat and Oakleaf Grounds Services, comprised of removing an existing hedged area which was unused and untidy, and replaced it with a new planting area with raised flowerbeds and seating that overlooks the playground for use during break times.

Keepmoat constructed the flowerbeds which were completed in September, ready for the planting event organised by Oakleaf Grounds.

Pupils from both Baxter College and Wyre Forest School took part in the planting, guided by staff from Keepmoat and Oakleaf Grounds. Previously a pupil at Baxter College, Andy Snowdon (pictured below helping a current student), now an Apprentice with the Oakleaf Grounds maintenance team, spent time with students helping them to take part in the planting, adding the finishing touches to the area.

Jenny Lane from Baxter College who organised the event commented: “We are really pleased with this new addition to our facilities, not only will the pupils benefit from the seating area but it was wonderful that both Baxter College and Wyre Forest School pupils were given the opportunity to take part in the planting work. They have got a lot out of it and the raised beds look fantastic.”

Keith Burgess, Executive Business Manager for Oakleaf Grounds Services, commented: “Well done to everyone who was involved in the organisation of this project. It was a successful event, enabling pupils from both Baxter College and Wyre Forest School to take part whilst learning some new skills, which has ultimately provided them with a better outside space."
