Lisa is caring for the community

case study

Having previously worked in catering, Lisa Wootton took 5 years out to raise her daughter.  During this time, Lisa became interested in care work and decided that she would like to pursue this as a career.

Lisa’s Work Coach at Kidderminster Job Centre signposted her to an employability course delivered by Vestia Training (part of The Community Housing Group).  Lisa took part in the 9 day Level 1 City & Guilds Employability Programme which was run over a two week period.  During the course, Lisa was able to apply for various vacancies with help from the course tutor. Having completed the course, she was successful in securing an interview with Beavers of Worcester, an organisation that provide domiciliary care to the Wyre Forrest community. After a short work trial, Lisa demonstrated her ability to fulfil the role and was offered a full time position joining the existing Care Team.

When asked what she thought about the course and support received from Vestia Training, Lisa said: “I had an idea of what I wanted to do but did not know how to go about it. I had been out of work for a while and lost touch with some basic skills needed for the workplace. The course helped me to identify my own skills and find out important information around how to perform well at interviews. I would recommend Vestia Training as the tutors support you with building confidence, increasing motivation, CV writing and how to project yourself professionally when attending interviews”.

The course tutor, Darren Robinson, said: “During the course, Lisa was the perfect student, she was always one of the first to arrive, she took part in all discussions and activities and showed signs of her caring nature with other delegates on the course. Lisa would assist others with the course content, make everyone feel welcome and even brought snacks in on the last day for everyone to share. I am really pleased for Lisa, she works really hard and has a great work ethic, I’m sure she will do well in her new role”.
