A roaring success for Ashley!

Ashley Spragg was employed by the West Midlands Safari Park as a Seasonal Operative over a period of three years. While waiting for his next seasonal placement at the wildlife leisure park, he was forced to claim job seekers allowance in the interim and was actively searching for temporary work. His work coach at Kidderminster Job Centre Plus suggested that he sign up for the 9 day Employability programme with Vestia Training, a subsidary of The Community Housing Group (TCHG). The course focuses on getting people closer to the workplace and securing sustainable work.

Whilst on the programme, Ashley applied for a Maintenance Operative vacancy with Nightingale Court Nursing home with the assistance of the Jobs Coach, Darren Robinson. Ashley attended an interview and was successful in securing a full-time position.

Ashley completed the programme and said: “I joined the Vestia programme as I thought it would be a good use of my time and also wanted my CV looking at. During the programme I was able to increase my self esteem and was more confident that I could attend an interview and perform well”. When asked whether he would recommend the programme he said: “I would definitely recommend the programme to anyone who is unsure of what they would like to do for a career and if you want to improve basic skills and interview skills. I now have a better understanding of how to present myself to employers positively and what is needed to be an effective team member. I love this job, my duties include painting and decorating, plumbing, gardening, carpentry and anything else that needs doing in terms of maintenance, I’m a bit of a ‘jack of all trades’!”

Darren Robinson, the course tutor said: “Ashley was a pleasure to support, he was enthusiastic and upbeat for the duration of the programme, he took time out to help others and was really motivated to find work. I am really pleased that Ashley has managed to find work that he enjoys doing and work that allows him to be hands on”.
