Employment Services - Good News Story - Michael Hopkins

Michael Hopkins had been out of permanent work for approximately 12 months and during that time was able to secure some temporary agency work in retail but ultimately wanted to return to care work which he was most experienced in.

He had been working with Vestia Training since September 2017 and had completed their Employability Skills course and more recently taken part in a ‘Be Digitally Confident' programme, which focuses on giving individuals the knowledge and understanding on using computers in basic terms.

Michael was pleased with the support received from Vestia and had also been using the Jobs Club drop-in service to access the internet and get tailored support in applying for work. After a series of applications, Michael was fortunate enough to secure a permanent position with Heron Care Nursing Home, based in Kidderminster and is currently undertaking training and induction.

Michael said: “I’m really pleased that I have managed to get back into work but more importantly, I’m happy that I have found employment in a sector that I really love. Things are moving in the right direction for me now and I have also purchased a motorbike to allow me to get to and from work and be more independent”.

Darren Robinson, the Vestia Job Coach who had been working with Michael, said: “I’m really pleased that Michael has gone into care work. He is a nice guy who wants to help others and has persevered with his applications for work, not allowing knock-backs to demotivate him, along with keeping his skills up to date with development courses”.
