Helping local people move into employment, improving their lives and securing future prosperity.
Building Better Opportunities
Building Better Opportunities (BBO) is designed to help local people move closer to or into employment, improve lives and secure the future prosperity of Worcestershire. Fusion, have been successful to date in being awarded 2 grants which have brought a £2 million investment into the county to support this.
With dedicated one to one support from one of Fusions 16 Job Coaches across Worcestershire, we will design a personal package of support based on an individual’s needs and circumstances. By recognising and building on their strengths, they will gain the skills and confidence to enter the world of work.
Fusion will initially work with more than 700 participants across Worcestershire with a target of at least 600 of these achieving a positive outcome by either gaining employment, returning to education or training, or actively engaging in job searching. For Fusion, the most important outcome is helping as many people as possible move into employment.
BBO commenced in Worcestershire in October 2016 and has brought together 12 delivery partners with specialist subject knowledge of housing, homelessness, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, criminal justice and mental ill health offering all of our participants a safe and informed route to move them forwards.
Our delivery partners:
- Fortis Living (Malvern & Worcester)
- Rooftop (Wychavon)
- Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (Bromsgrove)
- Redditch Borough Council (Redditch)
- The Community Housing Group (Wyre Forest)
- YSS (Worcester)
- Onside Advocate (Worcester)
- Vestia (Wyre Forest)
- WM Housing Group (Worcester)
- St Paul’s (Worcester)

How BBO is funded:
Building Better Opportunities is funded through the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund. From 2014 – 2020, £11m of European Social Funding (ESF) became available to invest in 'Social and Economic Inclusion', tackling the root causes of poverty, promoting social inclusion and driving local jobs and growth.
The Worcestershire programmes developed to invest this money have been shaped by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) according to local priorities with a requirement for the European Social Fund funding to be match funded. The Local Enterprise Partnership have 'opted-in' with support from the Big Lottery Fund to deliver parts of the European Social Fund programme that focus on employment and skills, such as Building Better Opportunities.
Fusion was created in 2014 with the vision of Housing Partners and specialist and local voluntary community sector organisations (VCS) coming together to deliver Worcestershire wide employment solutions and providing better, more comprehensive and coherent services; producing valuable outcomes for residents in need of help moving into sustainable paid employment. Vestia Community Trust led the work to establish Fusion and act as lead in the delivery of Building Better Opportunities (BBO), Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP)/Lottery contracts in Worcestershire. Having been successful to date with two bids, a county-wide programme of Employment Support for those furthest from the job market has now been established. In addition to Housing and VCS, Fusion also has the support of strategic partners, including the Local Enterprise Partnership District Councils, Heart of Worcestershire College and Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce.
